Insect-blocking, built into the package
Stored-product insects — weevils, beetles, moths — cause significant post-harvest and in-distribution losses across East Africa’s grain, flour, rice, and feed supply chains. Traditional packaging offers no protection: insects enter through seams, valves, and wear-points and proliferate during storage and transport. Conventional alternatives like fumigation are costly, hazardous, and short-lived.
ProvisionGard® takes a different approach: the protection is built into the package itself. A patented insect growth inhibitor is applied to the packaging substrate as a coating or integrated into the polymer, blocking the development of stored-product insects without any change to the packaging’s handling, processability, or appearance.
The principle: protect the food where it lives — inside its packaging — for the full length of the distribution chain, from miller to retailer to consumer.
How ProvisionGard® works
ProvisionGard® is a patented formulation — water-based or solvent-based depending on the substrate — containing an insect growth inhibitor. It is applied during standard converting via gravure, flexographic, offset, or rod press, integrating directly into existing packaging workflows.
The treatment is non-toxic, transfers no chemicals, properties, or odour to the food product, and adds no physical layer the eye can detect. It does not alter the substrate’s processability, structural performance, or appearance.
The active inhibitor disrupts the development cycle of common stored-product insects, blocking infestation throughout the package’s service life — from fill through retail.
Zero CapEx for converters. ProvisionGard® integrates into a converter’s existing equipment — no new machinery, no production-line retooling. Any converter or packaging manufacturer with standard gravure, flexographic, offset, or rod-press capability can apply it.
ProvisionGard® holds FDA certification and has been independently studied and validated by the United States Department of Agriculture (USDA), the World Health Organization (WHO), the World Food Programme (WFP), and many other regulatory and food-safety bodies. Adpack applies ProvisionGard® across three substrate families
Paper Substrates
Paper sacks and bags used for flour, rice, pasta and other dry commodities. ProvisionGard treatment applied during conversion, protecting the contents from package fill through retail shelf. Specific paper grade (kraft, uncoated, multi-wall, etc.) confirmed per application at order stage.
Woven Polypropylene
PP woven sacks for grain, rice, animal feed, and bulk commodities. Treatment applied to the woven fabric, integrated through Adpack’s manufacturing process. Branded for the East African market as GrainGard®.
BOPP & Multi-Layer Laminates
High-graphic BOPP-laminated woven, and other multi-layer film laminates used for retail-grade flour, rice, and pasta packaging. Treatment integrated through the lamination process for full-surface protection.
GrainGard®: ProvisionGard®-treated woven sacks, made in Kenya
GrainGard® is Adpack Limited’s own trademark for woven polypropylene sacks treated with ProvisionGard® technology, manufactured in Athi River for grain millers, flour processors, rice processors, and animal feed manufacturers across Kenya and East Africa.
By combining the patented ProvisionGard® insect-blocking layer with our vertically integrated woven PP manufacturing, GrainGard® delivers protected packaging at scale, with shorter lead times and lower landed costs than equivalent imported alternatives.
